Amir Shaheen

PHD Researcher at imec

Amir Shaheen is a PhD researcher at imec and a PhD candidate at the Photonics Research Group at Ghent University, focusing on developing highly sensitive high-speed photo-detectors within the silicon photonics platform. Amir's expertise includes device modeling and engineering using TCAD, optical modeling, layout design, and DC & RF characterization. Prior to the current position, Amir worked at Si-Ware Systems for a decade as a Senior Staff Product Engineer, where responsibilities included leading a team in test engineering for MEMS-based FTIR spectrometers, developing automated testing setups, and formulating testing strategies and algorithms. Amir holds a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Photonics from Ghent University, a Master’s degree in Optics/Optical Sciences from Ain Shams University, and a Bachelor's degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from Alexandria University.
