Katie Chiavarini

Upward Bound Project Director at Immigrant & Refugee Community Organization

Katie Chiavarini has a diverse range of work experience. Katie started their career in 1997 as an Environmental Management Volunteer for the Peace Corps. From there, they served as an Assistant to the Director of Science Education at OMSI in 2000. In 2002, they became the Funds Development Manager at SmileSavers. Following that, they worked as a Science Teacher, first at Cascade Middle School from 2004 to 2006, and then at ArtTech High School from 2006 to 2007. In 2008, they joined The Immigrant and Refugee Community Organization (IRCO) as the Upward Bound Project Director, a position they held until 2016. Katie also served as the Upward Bound and RISE Project Director during their time at IRCO. Overall, Katie Chiavarini has extensive experience in project management, education, and community organization.

Katie Chiavarini's education history begins with their high school education at First Colonial High School from 1988 to 1991. Katie then pursued a Bachelor of Science degree with a concentration in Ecology at Penn State University from 1991 to 1995. Following their undergraduate studies, they attended Oregon State University from 1995 to 1997, where they obtained a Master of Science degree in Zoology. Later, Katie furthered their education at Lewis & Clark College from 2003 to 2004, earning a Master of Arts in Teaching in Secondary School Biology and General Science.
