Helena Laven has had a varied and successful career in the field of immunology. Helena began their career in 1994 as a Graduate Student and Technical Director at the University of Chicago, where they earned their Ph.D. in Immunology and pioneered the use of ELISPot and tetramer assays for the monitoring of antigen-specific immune responses in cancer patients undergoing immunotherapy. In 2005, they became a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Karolinska Institutet, where they purified NK cells from human blood and analyzed their susceptibility to oxidative stress. From 2006 to 2019, they were a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Medical College of Wisconsin, where they studied the pathology of and immune responses to BK virus. During this time, they also volunteered with the FOX POINT-BAYSIDE PARENT TEACHER ORGANIZATION INC. In 2019, they became the Treasurer of the FOX POINT BAYSIDE EDUCATIONAL FOUNDATION INC, where they were responsible for monthly financial reports, preparation of end of year financial statements for tax purposes, and managing permits, insurances, and licenses for the organization. Most recently, they began working as a Project Coordinator and Laboratory Analyst at Immuneed in 2022.
Helena Laven attained a Doctor of Philosophy - PhD in Immunology from the University of Chicago in 2001, following a Master's degree in Molecular Biology from Umeå University in 1994.
