Geospatial and Remote Sensing Scientist II at Impact Observatory

Joe Mazzariello has a diverse work experience in the field of geospatial analysis, remote sensing, and data analysis. Joe is currently working at Impact Observatory as a Geospatial and Remote Sensing Scientist II since July 2022. Prior to that, they worked at Impact Observatory as a Data Analyst and Training Data Specialist from January 2021 to July 2022.

Before joining Impact Observatory, Joe worked at National Geographic as a Technical Specialist from April 2020 to January 2021. Joe also served as a Contractor at the Geographic Visualization Laboratory from August 2019 to April 2020.

In 2016, Joe joined CULTURAL SITE RESEARCH AND MANAGEMENT, INC. as a GIS and Remote Sensing Analyst. During their time there, they were responsible for creating maps for cultural and environmental resources using GIS and satellite remote sensing platforms.

Joe's work experience also includes being an MA Student in Near Eastern Archaeology at Johns Hopkins University from August 2015 to May 2017. Joe worked as a research and lab assistant for the department's GIS and remote sensing lab, where they performed statistical analyses for archaeological projects and led field crews in surveys using GPS receivers.

From January 2013 to May 2015, Joe worked at Geoarcheology Research Associates as a Staff Archaeologist. Joe'sresponsibilities ranged from field technician work to laboratory and office work, including archaeological surveys, excavation, and monitoring of construction sites.

Joe's early career includes brief positions as a Cultural Resources Technician at GAI Consultants, Inc. in November and December 2012.

Joe Mazzariello obtained their Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree in Archaeology and Classical Studies from The George Washington University, which they attended from 2008 to 2012. Joe further pursued their education at The Johns Hopkins University from 2015 to 2017, where they earned a Master of Arts (MA) degree in Near Eastern Studies with a specialization in Archaeology.
