Steve Brumby has extensive experience in the field of technology and data analysis. Steve is currently the CEO/CTO and Co-Founder of Impact Observatory, a technology company focused on using artificial intelligence and machine learning algorithms for sustainability and environmental risk analysis. Prior to this, they worked at National Geographic, where they held various roles including Senior Advisor for Data Visualization, Senior Director for Geographic Visualization, and Senior Advisor. At National Geographic, they led programs applying machine learning and scientific modeling to create and visualize global datasets for data-driven conservation. Before joining National Geographic, Steve was a Senior Fellow at the World Resources Institute, where they worked on using large-scale machine learning and remote sensing science for challenging environmental topics. Steve also co-founded Descartes Labs, a company focused on analyzing overhead imagery and understanding human activity and natural resources at a global scale. Additionally, Steve has worked at Los Alamos National Laboratory as a Senior Research Scientist and Research Scientist, where they developed deep-learning algorithms for video analysis and labeling. Steve was also a Post-doctoral Research Fellow at the University of Melbourne, where they worked on the LOBSTER X-ray optics project. Steve Brumby completed their Bachelor of Science (Honours) degree in Physics from the University of Melbourne, spanning from 1990 to 1993. Steve then pursued a Ph.D. in Theoretical Physics from the same university, which they completed from 1994 to 1997.
