João Sio

João Sio is a Design Engineer at Robert Bird Group, specializing in structural assessments under extreme events and automation of workflows using Python and Rhino-GH. Concurrently, João serves as an Honorary Research Associate at Imperial College London, focusing on enhancing design-oriented robustness assessment methods and supervising final year students. As a former PhD Candidate, João conducted research on the disproportionate collapse of reinforced concrete structures. Previous experience includes positions as a Graduate Teaching Assistant at Imperial College London, where João supported various engineering modules, and as a Graduate Structural Engineer at Arup, where João worked on commercial developments in London. Earlier, as a Research Assistant at Instituto Superior Técnico, João contributed to the LASTEICON project by designing steel trusses and coordinating project operations. João holds a PhD in Structural Engineering from Imperial College London and both a BSc and MSc in Civil Engineering from Instituto Superior Técnico.
