Nigel Steward

Nigel Steward is a seasoned professional in the fields of metallurgy, materials science, and economic performance, currently serving as Professor of Practice and Co-Director of the Centre for Sectoral Economic Performance at Imperial College London since April 2025. Prior to this role, Steward held several senior positions at Rio Tinto from 2006 to 2025, including Chief Scientist and Managing Director of Copper & Diamonds Operations. Steward's extensive experience includes leadership roles in technology, R&D, and supply chain management across various sectors, notably in aluminium and copper operations. Academic credentials include a PhD in Ceramic Science and an MBA, both from prestigious institutions, along with a BSc in Metallurgy & Materials Science from Imperial College London.
