Jenny Thorvaldson

Chief Economist and Data Officer at IMPLAN

Jenny Thorvaldson has a long history of work experience. Jenny began their career in 2002 as a Medical Technologist at ARUP Laboratories. In 2003, they became a Health Educator for AmeriCorps, teaching adults with Type II Diabetes about nutrition and diabetes in both English and Spanish, as well as teaching elementary school children about health, hygiene, and safety. In 2005, they became a Research Assistant at Colorado State University. In 2006, they were hired as an Economist at the USDA Forest Service. From 2008 to 2010, they worked at Front Range Community College as an Environmental Economics Instructor, and at ENTRIX, Inc. as a Field Technician. During this time, they also worked as an Economist--Contractor/SS at the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS). In 2010, they began working at IMPLAN Group as Chief Economist and Data Officer, where their primary role was to develop IMPLAN's annual data sets for regional economies across the U.S. Jenny also served as Support Economist and Data Development Specialist, creating internal documentation to increase quality and replicability of the data development processes. In 2015, they began working as a Spanish Tutor at WyzAnt Tutoring, and in 2010 they became an Economic Consultant at the Environmental Defense Fund.

Jenny Thorvaldson obtained a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Biology/Biological Sciences, General from Colorado State University in 2002, following a five-year program from 1997. Jenny then went on to pursue a Ph.D. in Agricultural and Natural Resource Economics from Colorado State University, which they completed in 2008. In 2014, Jenny obtained a Certificate in Disney's Approach to Leadership Excellence from UNC Charlotte Extended Academic Programs. Most recently, in December 2021, they obtained a Certificate in Translation and Interpretation - Spanish from Community College of Aurora.
