Harris started their career at the University of KwaZulu-Natal, where they worked as a Research Consultant and Assistant Lecturer from 1999 to 2003.

From 1999 to 2001, they pursued a Master of Science (M.Sc.) degree in Chemical Engineering. Harris then continued their academic journey by pursuing a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree in Chemical Engineering at the University of KwaZulu-Natal, which they completed in 2003. Several years later, in 2013, Harris attended INSEAD, where they participated in the Management Acceleration Program (MAP), focusing on Business Administration and Management, General.
