Mary Weber

Dr. Ferrara is a Distinguished Professor of Pathology and Adjunct Professor of Ophthalmology and Pharmacology at the University of California, San Diego. In his former career at [Genentech](/org/genentech), he isolated and cloned VEGF and created the first anti-VEGF antibody. This led to the development of Avastin, which has become part of the standard treatment for a variety of cancers, and Lucentis®, which is FDA-approved for wet age-related macular degeneration. He is a member of the [National Academy of Sciences](/org/national-academy-of-sciences) and the National Academy of Medicine. His many awards include the Lasker-DeBakey Award (2010), the Breakthrough Prize (2013) in Life Sciences and Champalimaud Vision Award.



Napoleone Ferrara

Dr. Lee is CEO of Taejoon Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd., a specialty ophthalmology company based in South Korea. He earned his Ph.D. in Immunology/Biology from The Scripps Research Institute and his Master of Science from [Seoul National University](/org/seoul-national-university).



Joon Youb Lee

Dr. Guo has focused on sustained drug delivery technologies and products which can improve the quality of life for patients throughout her career. She has made significant contributions to the design and development of three FDA approved, sustained release, intravitreal implantable/injectable products. Dr. Guo brings over 25 years experience to the team, developing drug products from early feasibility to clinical development and commercialization. She has expertise in various CMC functions including formulation development, analytical development, ocular delivery, preclinical research and regulatory submission. A medicinal chemist by training, Dr. Guo is the inventor/co-inventor for numerous U.S and international patents and applications.

Hong Guo

Dr. Chen has more than 25 years of research and development experience in controlled drug delivery, focused on designing and developing novel sustained drug delivery systems. Developing systems utilizing prodrugs, polymeric microspheres, transdermal delivery, drug eluting stents and ocular delivery systems, Dr. Chen has numerous granted U.S and international patents and was on the development team that led to three FDA approved drug products. Dr. Chen received his BS Degree of Pharmacy from Nanjing College of Pharmacy and his Ph.D. in Pharmaceuticals from the [University of Heidelberg](/org/university-of-heidelberg).

Jianbing Chen

Mr. Nazzaro has over 25 years experience in manufacturing, logistics and operations for medical devices and pharmaceutical products. He has led successful pre-approval inspections with the FDA and has developed three FDA approved products. With focus on manufacturability and supply chain, he successfully commercialized 2 sustained release ocular products. Targeting delivery systems for miniaturized payloads, Mr. Nazzaro has numerous U.S and international patents.

Marty Nazzaro

Dr. Ambati is the DuPont Guerry, III, Professor and Vice Chair for Research, and Founding Director, Center for Advanced Vision Science at the [University of Virginia](/org/university-of-virginia). He pioneered the concept that macular degeneration is an inflammatory disease driven by perturbations in innate immunity. His work has been published in premier journals such as Nature, Science, Cell, Nature Medicine, and The New England Journal of Medicine. He was elected a Fellow of the [National Academy of Inventors](/org/national-academy-of-inventors), and is the only ophthalmologist to win the NIH Director’s Pioneer Award. He has won numerous other prizes including the Doris Duke Distinguished Clinical Scientist Award, ARVO Cogan Award, Roger Johnson Memorial Award for Macular Degeneration Research, Chanchlani Global Vision Research Award, and David Weeks Outstanding AMD Research Award. Dr. Ambati led the discovery and development of Kamuvudines.

Jayakrishna Ambati

Dr. Ambati is a Professor of Ophthalmology at [Loma Linda University](/org/loma-linda-university), a cornea surgeon at Pacific Clear Vision Institute, and president and co-Founder of iVeena Delivery Systems, a private eye care company focused on conditions of the front of the eye. He is also a practicing ophthalmologist specializing in corneal disease. He has received many awards including the Troutman-Veronneau Prize and the ARVO Ludwig Von-Sallmann Award.



Balamurali Ambati

Before co-founding Inflammasome Therapeutics, Dr. Ashton was CEO of pSivida Corp (PSDV). During his time with the company, it reincorporated into the U.S., established its primary listing on NASDAQ, had one of its licensed products (ILUVIEN®) obtain FDA and EU approval and developed another product (Yutiq®) through the successful completion of the first Phase III study. Dr. Ashton is the Inventor/Developer of 4 FDA-approved products (Yutiq for posterior uveitis, ILUVIEN for DME, Retisert® for posterior uveitis and Vitrasert® for CMV retinitis.
