Sergio Mena

Sergio Mena has a diverse work experience spanning over 24 years. Sergio is currently working as a Research Engineer at Informal Systems, where they are responsible for designing and verifying algorithms used in critical blockchain infrastructure. Prior to that, Sergio worked at Cisco Systems for over 11 years as a Software Engineer, involved in designing and developing network protocols and large-scale software architectures.

Sergio also has experience as a Postdoctoral Researcher at Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL), where they conducted research on fault-tolerant distributed systems and collaborated on a 3D social networking project with Twitter as a scalability architect. Sergio has also worked as a Teaching Fellow at The University of York, where they lectured and supervised student projects.

Earlier in their career, Sergio worked as a Research & Teaching Assistant at EPFL, focusing on fault-tolerant distributed systems and modular middleware. Sergio also served as the Head of Information Technology Area at Iniciativas para el Desarrollo Económico, where they were responsible for website design, development, and system administration.

Sergio began their career as an IT Intern at Iberia Spanish Airlines, where they gained experience in database analysis, design, and implementation, as well as network services deployment.

Sergio Mena has a strong educational background in computer science and related fields. Sergio began their academic journey in 1993 at the Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV), where they pursued a BSc in Computer Engineering with a focus on Systems Architecture. This program lasted from 1993 to 1996.

Following the completion of their Bachelor's degree, Sergio continued their studies at UPV and obtained a Master of Science (MSc) in Computer Science. During this time from 1993 to 1999, they pursued a double major, focusing on both Software Engineering and Computer Architecture.

In 2000, Sergio enrolled at EPFL (École polytechnique fédérale de Lausanne) to join their Graduate School, specializing in Computer Science. This program lasted for a year, from 2000 to 2001, and further enhanced their knowledge in the field.

Sergio's educational journey culminated in their pursuit of a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) at EPFL from 2002 to 2006. Their PhD research focused on Distributed Fault Tolerance and Modular Middleware. This program allowed him to delve deep into these subjects and develop expertise in these areas.
