Chris Norton

Director, Marine Regulatory Compliance at Ingram Barge Company

Chris Norton has a diverse work experience spanning over several years. Chris started their career as a Unit Level Communications Maintainer in the South Carolina Army National Guard from 1991 to 1997. Chris then worked as an Aviation Maintenance Technician at CG Air Station Clearwater, FL from 1998 to 1999, and later at CG Air Station Kodiak, AK from 1999 to 2002.

In 2002, Chris became a Drill Instructor at USCG Recruit Training in Cape May, NJ, where they excelled in supervising and leading recruits and drill instructors. Chris also served as a Lead Company Commander during this time.

Moving on, Chris attended Officer Candidate School at the US Coast Guard Academy in 2005. Chris then served as a Marine Inspector at CG Sector Hampton Roads from 2005 to 2008, where they supervised personnel and conducted inspections to ensure compliance with federal and international laws and regulations.

Chris's career continued to progress as they became the Chief of the Inspection Division at CG Sector Guam from 2008 to 2011. In this role, they managed inspections of maritime facilities and commercial vessels, ensuring regulatory compliance and maintaining relationships with the marine industry.

From 2011 to 2015, Chris served as the Chief of the Prevention Department at CG MSU Baton Rouge. Chris supervised personnel, oversaw daily operations, and managed various responsibilities, including marine casualty investigations and vessel inspections, in a busy port area.

In 2015, Chris joined the U.S. Coast Guard as the Chief of the Eighth District Prevention Department Inspections & Investigations. Chris provided oversight, subject matter expertise, and policy support for marine safety inspections and investigations in the largest and most complex district of the Coast Guard.

Chris'smost recent role is at Ingram Barge Company, where they started in 2018 as the Sr. Manager of Marine Regulatory Compliance and later progressed to the position of Director of Marine Regulatory Compliance.
