Joanne Burns

Joanne Burns serves as Chief Strategy Officer of Cerner Corporation (NASDQ: CERN), a global health platform and innovation company, headquartered in Kansas City. For more than 15 years, Ms. Burns has held several management positions across Cerner, notably helping develop the Tiger Institute for Health Innovation, a public/private partnership and national model of excellence for patient care, reduced health care costs and next-generation health sciences and technology. Today, she works to further advance Cerner’s strategic initiatives across its business units. In 2018, Ms. Burns was named to Health Data Management’s Most Powerful Women in Healthcare IT and, in 2017, named in the Kansas City Business Journal’s Women Who Mean Business. Before joining Cerner, Burns spent more than 20 years working as a nurse and other clinical roles.

Joanne received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of New York at Plattsburgh and her Master of Public Administration in Hospital Administration from the University of San Francisco. Joanne received program certification in “Women on Boards” from the Harvard T.H Chan School of Public Health. She is also an American College of Healthcare Executives Fellow designate.

Joanne sits on the management board of SNOMED International, an organization responsible for creating clinical terminologies which foster interoperability of electronic medical records in more than 30 countries worldwide. She serves on the board of governors for the Tiger Institute which has responsibility for governing the joint investments of Cerner and the University of Missouri. She serves on the advisory board of Purdue University’s Regenstrief Center for Healthcare Engineering.
