Tracey Steig's work experience includes various roles in the field of fisheries acoustics and hydroacoustics. From 2017 onwards, they served as the Vice President and principal investigator at Innovasea, where they supervised the design, installation, data collection, and analysis of hydroacoustic and acoustic tag fisheries studies. Their work focused on salmonids and other migratory fish in rivers, lakes, and hydroelectric dams worldwide. Tracey also conducted evaluations required for the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission relicensing of hydropower projects, including bypass studies for diverting fish from turbine intakes. With 38 years of experience, they have authored over 100 publications and technical reports in fisheries acoustics.
Prior to their role at Innovasea, Tracey Steig was the General Manager at HTI-Vemco USA, Inc. from February 2017 to November 2017. Tracey also held the position of Executive Vice President at HTI Hydroacoustic Technology, Inc. from January 1988 to January 2017.
Before entering the private sector, they worked as a Senior Scientist at BioSonics from January 1982 to December 1987. Additionally, they gained research experience as a Research Engineer at the University of Washington Civil Engineering department from June 1978 to December 1981.
Tracey Steig attended Mark Morris High School from 1971 to 1974. After completing high school, they pursued a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering at the University of Washington, from 1974 to 1978. Following their undergraduate studies, they continued their education at the same institution, where they obtained a Master of Science in Civil Engineering with a focus on Air Pollution Research from 1978 to 1980.
