Curt Kothera began their work experience in 2001 at Northrop Grumman as a Mechanical Engineer, where they focused on improving development and assembly processes for electronic control boards. In 2002, they joined the Air Force Research Laboratory as a Space Scholar. From 2001 to 2005, Curt worked at Virginia Tech as a Graduate Research Assistant in Mechanical Engineering, conducting research in the Center for Intelligent Material Systems and Structures. In 2005, they joined Techno-Sciences, Inc. as a Research Engineer, then became a Principal Engineer and eventually a Program Manager. Since 2013, Curt has been a Senior Scientist at InnoVital Systems, Inc.

Curt Kothera earned their Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from Virginia Tech, where they studied from 1997 to 2001. Curt later pursued a Master of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from the same institution, completing their studies in 2002. Curt furthered their education at Virginia Tech by obtaining a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, which they completed between the years 2003 and 2005. Additionally, in 1999, they attended Luleå University of Technology to study Mechanical Engineering for a brief period.
