Thomas L. Ransom

Thomas L. Ransom currently serves as the Director of Sales Optimization for Truist Financial and he is an inaugural member of the banks Operating Council. Previously he served as the President of the Greater D.C. market for BB&T now Truist bank. He is a twenty plus year veteran of BB&T and has led high performing business banking and middle market teams throughout the Mid Atlantic. His current responsibilities include leading and directing the strategic development, deployment and reinforcement of the enterprise sales strategy. This includes the sales culture framework, sales optimization and effectiveness, measurement/analytics, Client Relationship Management (CRM) technology, Client Engagement Platform (CEP), training, communications, processes, and tools. He is responsible for overall enterprise sales effectiveness and sales optimization.

Mr. Ransom also serves as Chair of Truist Financial’ s corporate African American Affinity business resource group and sits on the CEO’s Executive Diversity and Inclusion committee. In that role, he works with Executive Management to produce strategies that help the bank retain, advance and recruit diverse associates and clients. Mr. Ransom developed and leads the Truist HBCU strategy which is a groundbreaking collaboration effort to help ensure the success of those students and schools. Given the exaggerated impact of COVID on minority owned businesses, Mr. Ransom is leading a directed effort to connect, support and consult with those businesses to help them excel through this crisis. Representing Truist, Mr. Ransom has launched a groundbreaking partnership with the United States Black Chambers, Inc. to address the urgent crisis facing black owned businesses in America. He is an inaugural member of the USBC’s Corporate Advisory Council as they bring together corporate America to tackle this important issue.

Mr. Ransom earned a Bachelor of Arts in Economics at Hampden-Sydney College where he was a four year letterman on the football team. He was also selected to complete a fellowship in Public Policy and International Affairs at Princeton University. Mr. Ransom balanced a challenging academic schedule, athletics and work to graduate in three years and join the widely respected Management Development Program at BB&T bank. He subsequently earned a Master’s in Business Administration at the University of Baltimore and a Graduate Degree in Banking from Stonier held at the University of Pennsylvania.

Mr. Ransom served as the Chairman of the Board of Directors for Hearts and Homes for Youth which shelters up to 100 abused and neglected kids each night from 2010-2019. He’s an active member of the D.C. Economic Club and the Board of Trade. He sat on the Board and served as Vice President of both the Bethesda Chevy Chase Chamber of Commerce and Imagination Stage. He served on the board of the Community Foundation for the National Capital Region and also supported the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society by serving on the Leadership Council for the Ryan Kerrigan Golf Classic. He is a 2011 graduate of the Leadership Montgomery program and served on the Board of Directors and was the Chair-elect. Mr. Ransom served on the Professional Advisory Council for the University Of Phoenix School Of Business and helped develop entrepreneurship curriculum to support increased access to capital for minority owned businesses. Mr. Ransom worked with the U.S. Black Chambers, Inc. to put in place a new education platform to spark business growth in areas hardest hit by the great recession.

Mr. Ransom is a community advocate and has led many volunteer efforts like feeding underserved children and renovating shelters for boys and girls. On a more personal level, Mr. Ransom served as President of his neighborhood HOA and he’s the Head Coach for his son’s youth tackle football, flag football and basketball teams.

In 2010 Mr. Ransom was honored by the Washington Business Journal in their inaugural launch of “top 40 under 40” in Washington D.C. In 2011, he was recognized by SMART CEO magazine as one of the top bankers in the Mid-Atlantic and in 2012 he was recognized with the Minority Business Leader Award by the Washington Business Journal. In 2012, Mr. Ransom was featured in the June edition of The Network Journal as one of the top 40 under 40 leaders in America. In 2016, Thomas was honored in the inaugural Smart CEO magazine Centers of Influence awards. In 2017, Mr. Ransom received the Dworkin Award for Outstanding Service to Youth which is a milestone achievement. Under Thomas’s leadership, BB&T was recognized by the Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce with the Corporate Social Responsibility Award. Mr. Ransom is a repeat winner of the “Sterling Performer” and “Best of the Best” awards at BB&T which is the highest measure of performance at the bank.

Mr. Ransom resides in Charlotte, NC. He is married to Christy Ransom (COO of Charlotte Eye Ear Nose & Throat Associates) and together they have an 12 year old son, Keston, a 6 year old son, Breslin and a 1 year old son, Lathan.
