Giorgio Rizzi, PhD

Scientific Consultant Lead at Inscopix

Giorgio Rizzi, PhD has a diverse work experience spanning from 2010 to 2019. In 2010, they were an Intern at Politecnico di Milano, where they designed and applied robotic therapeutic strategies for motor disorders, and planned and coded haptic software designed to aid in the recovery of childhood onset dystonia patients. In 2011, they were an MSc Intern at Utrecht University, where they investigated interactions between early life chronic stress and hyperthermia induces epilepsy, and received Mater student training on in vitro electrophysiology. In 2013, they were an MSc Intern at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where they dissected hypothalamic circuits governing feeding and received Master student intern training in the implementation of optogenetic techniques for rodent behavioural testing. From 2014 to 2019, they were at the University of Basel, first as a PhD Student and then as a Postdoctoral Fellow. As a PhD Student, they investigated the role of Basal Ganglia sub circuits in motor behavior, specifically looking at cell type specific projecting cells arising from the Substantia Nigra pars Reticulata. Giorgio Rizzi, was also responsible for the initial set-up and optimization of the equipment in the lab. As a Postdoctoral Fellow, they used a multi-level approach to dissect neuronal circuitries involved in nociception and midbrain mediated dyskinesias, and implemented calcium imaging in freely moving rodents using inscopix technology. Lastly, from 2019 to present, they have been at Inscopix, Inc. in various roles, including Scientific Consultant Lead, Senior Scientific Consultant, and Field Scientific Consultant.

Giorgio Rizzi completed their Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Neuroscience from the University of Basel in 2017. Prior to that, they obtained a Master's degree in Neuroscience from Utrecht University in 2013. Giorgio Rizzi, also attended Politecnico di Milano in 2010, where they studied Biomedical/Medical Engineering.
