Marco Malferrari

Co-founder at InSimili

Marco Malferrari is a Junior Assistant Professor at Alma Mater Studiorum - Università di Bologna since April 2020 and has co-founded InSimili in February 2021. Marco's previous experience includes a postdoctoral fellowship at the Department of Chemistry "Giacomo Ciamician" - University of Bologna from March 2017 to April 2020 and a research position at FaBiT - University of Bologna from February 2012 to September 2016. Research activities focus on the relationship between protein conformational dynamics and function, emphasizing the incorporation of various protein complexes into dehydrated sugar matrices and their structural and functional characterization. Additionally, Marco Malferrari holds a PhD from the University of Bologna, where the thesis explored the coupling between electron transfer and protein/solvent dynamics in photosynthetic reaction centers. Academic qualifications include a Laurea Specialistica in Biologia Cellulare e Molecolare and a Laurea Triennale in Scienze Biologiche, both from Alma Mater Studiorum – Università di Bologna.

InSimili

InSimili s.r.l. is a private biotechnology company that aims to bring to the market a patented technology, which will revolutionize the drug selection process. Our product is able to recreate, in the laboratory experiments, several pathological and physiological conditions of human tissues. This feature enables in vitro drug testing in an environment which is much closer to the one of human tissues, where the drug has to effectively work. This approach will enable a better evaluation of the real efficacy of pharmacological treatments, limiting the number of drugs wrongly selected in the preclinical phase and, as a consequence, reducing the failures in the clinical phases. This approach will make the drug selection process faster, more efficient and more safe in respect to the actually adopted procedures.
