He is currently vice president of the Brazilian Academy of Sciences. Graduated, Ph.D. and professorship in Mechanical Engineering from the University of São Paulo and post-doctorate from the University of California – Berkeley. He is a professor at the São Carlos School of Engineering at USP, a fellow at the International Academy for Production Engineering – CIRP and a member of the Brazilian Association of Mechanical Sciences – ABCM and of the Society of Manufacturing Engineers – SME. It has 250 published works and 5 patents. He was president of the Institute of Technological Research – IPT and awarded the Grand Cross and the Commendation of the National Order of Scientific Merit. He received the FCW Award from the Conrado Wessel Foundation, the Anísio Teixeira Award from CAPES/MEC and the SAP Americas Innovation Award.
