The Institut National Polytechnique Félix HOUPHOUËT-BOIGNY (INP-HB), a public administrative institution, was created by decree 96-678 of 4 September 1996, following the restructuring of the École Nationale Supérieure d'Agronomie (ENSA), the École Nationale Supérieure des Travaux Publics (ENSTP), the Institut Agricole de Bouaké (IAB) and the Institut National Supérieur de l'Enseignement Technique (INSET). These four establishments were commonly known as the "Grandes Écoles de Yamoussoukro". The creation of the INP-HB meets several major objectives, the main ones being:
- Optimising the management of human and financial resources; 
- Creating a centre for the training of an elite; 
- Establishing the link of the future technopole; 
- Improving the quality of teaching and the adequacy of training-employment.
