Phillipa Burns

Phillipa Burns is an experienced medical microbiologist currently serving as a Specialist Advisor at the Institute of Biomedical Science since December 2018 and as a Consultant Clinical Scientist at York and Scarborough Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust since August 2023. Additionally, Phillipa was a Committee Member for the British Society for Microbial Technology from May 2022 to January 2023 and completed training as a Consultant Clinical Scientist Trainee at Hull University Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust from September 2018 to November 2020. With prior roles including Deputy Laboratory Manager at Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust and Senior Biomedical Scientist at Public Health England, Phillipa has developed expertise in antimicrobial resistance and cystic fibrosis, alongside a strong focus on health and safety in laboratory settings. Education includes ongoing Doctoral studies in Medical Microbiology at The University of Manchester, a PGDiploma in Healthcare Leadership & Management from Alliance Manchester Business School, and multiple qualifications from the Royal College of Pathology and Cardiff Metropolitan University.
