Md Nurul Islam PhD

Director Of Product Development at Intact Genomics

Md Nurul Islam PhD has a long and varied work experience. Md Nurul began their career in 2005 as a Postdoctoral Fellow at the National Institutes of Health, where they identified two novel domains in RecQL5 by applying bioinformatics and structural modeling-guided mutagenesis methods. In 2010, they became a Research Assistant Professor / Associate Research Scientist at Yale University School of Medicine, where they purified RTEL1-associated protein complex. In 2014, they joined Intact Genomics, Inc. as the Director of Product Development, where they led a multi-disciplinary project team and served as a team member on additional projects, executing research strategy, process and assay development, quality assurance for commercial manufacturing, supervising and mentoring senior and junior scientists, and assisting marketing teams. Md Nurul also developed and commercialized in vitro transcription (IV-T) enzyme and kit, qPCR and isothermal based methods/kits to detect DNA and RNA, rapid Covid-19 diagnostic kit based on isothermal amplification, RT-qPCR based Covid-19 detection kit, and in vitro diagnostic kits to detect Zika, Dengue and Chikungunya viruses. As a Principal Scientist at Intact Genomics, they developed high-fidelity DNA Polymerase (i7 Polymerase), Hot start High-fidelity DNA Polymerase (Hot start i7 Polymerase), Enhanced Recombinase Polymerase Amplification (eRPA) kit, genome editing mutation detection kit, Plant Direct-PCR kit for genotypic analysis, high efficiency next generation sequencing (NGS) library prep kit, and cDNA synthesis kit. As a Senior Scientist, they independently setup protein purification unit and supervised team for protein expression, purification and characterization.

Md Nurul Islam PhD obtained their PhD in Biochemistry (Protein Engineering) from the Kyushu Institute of Technology in 2005. Md Nurul also holds a Master's degree in Microbiology from the University of Dhaka, Bangladesh and a Bachelor's degree in Microbiology from the same university.
