Marc Ilgen

Marc Ilgen has a diverse work experience spanning over several decades. Marc began their career in 1991 as a Member of Technical Staff at The Aerospace Corporation, where they conducted research and analysis for US Air Force and NASA mission design activities. Marc then joined HNC Software in 1994 as a Sr. Staff Scientist, where they worked on research and development activities involving neural network and computational intelligence technologies. Marc later became the Director of Exploratory Research and Development at HNC Software, leading government-funded projects and performing business development for clients such as DARPA and the US Intelligence Community.

In 2002, Marc founded West of Pluto Software and served as the Founder, President, and Chief Scientist until 2013. During this time, they worked on various software development projects. In 2008, they became the President of Neurolinker.com, a role they held until 2011.

Marc then moved to Pakedge Devices and Software Inc. in 2013, where they worked as the VP of Software Development until 2016. During this time, they gained experience in software development leadership.

From 2016 to 2019, Marc worked at Control4 as a Principal Software Scientist and Senior Director. In this role, they were responsible for developing new technologies and software for network monitoring and control, smart home devices, and embedded systems. Marc also worked on architecting solutions, server development, and native mobile development for iOS and Android. Additionally, they evaluated, designed, and implemented AI technologies for smart home systems.

Following their time at Control4, Marc joined Ethermed.ai in 2019 as a Technical Advisor and Chief Scientist. Here, they led the development of a web and mobile app for Covid19 contact tracing inside hospitals and explored medical AI/ML technologies for improving the doctor/patient experience.

Most recently, in 2023, Marc co-founded Integrated Reality Labs, where they currently serve as the Chief Technology Officer.

Marc Ilgen has an extensive education history in various fields. Marc obtained a Ph.D. in Aerospace Engineering from UCLA from 1986 to 1992. Prior to that, they earned an MS in Nuclear Engineering from UCLA from 1984 to 1986.

In recent years, Marc has pursued additional certifications and completed nanodegree programs. Marc obtained a Nanodegree in Blockchain Developer from Udacity in 2021. In 2017, they completed the Self Driving Car Nanodegree program from Udacity, specializing in Self Driving Car Technology.

Moreover, Marc has shown an interest in cryptocurrency and digital technologies. In 2018, they studied Bitcoin and Cryptocurrency Technologies through Coursera. Furthermore, they completed the Deep Learning Foundations Nanodegree program from Udacity in 2017, earning a Certificate of Completion.

Marc's ongoing commitment to learning is evident through their enrollment in various courses at the University of California, Irvine Division of Continuing Education. From 2014 to 2016, they studied Embedded Systems Engineering and Digital Signal Processing.

Marc's educational journey began with a BS in Physics from Haverford College, which they obtained from 1979 to 1983. Prior to that, they earned a Diploma from Chapel Hill High School in 1979.

In addition to their formal education, Marc has obtained certifications in Robotics. Marc completed the Robotics: Mobility, Robotics: Aerial Robotics, and Robotics: Computational Motion Planning courses through Coursera in 2018.
