Nerilie Abram is a distinguished climate scientist currently serving as Chief Scientist at the Australian Antarctic Division since August 2025. Prior roles include Deputy Director of Partnerships at The ARC Centre of Excellence for 21st Century Weather and Deputy Director at the ARC Australian Centre of Excellence in Antarctic Science, both from February 2024 to August 2025 and January 2021 to August 2025, respectively. Abram is a Professor of Climate Science at The Australian National University, where tenure extends from July 2011 to August 2025, and contributed as a Climate Scientist for the Climate Crisis Advisory Group from July 2021 to June 2025. Additionally, Abram has held the position of Chief Investigator at the ARC Centre of Excellence for Climate Extremes from July 2017 to December 2024 and worked as an ice core scientist at the British Antarctic Survey from 2004 to 2011. Educational qualifications include a PhD in Geological and Earth Sciences from The Australian National University and a Bachelor of Science (Advanced) with University Medal, majoring in Geology and Marine Science from the University of Sydney.
