Nelson Correia

Associate Director, API Product Development at Intercept Pharmaceuticals

Nelson Correia has extensive work experience in the pharmaceutical industry. Nelson started their career in 2009 at SynphaBase AG, where they worked as a Laboratory Technician for four years and later became the Lab Head. In 2015, they joined Pharmazell A/S as a Production Chemist and later took on roles as a Project Manager and eventually became the Head of Production. In 2019, Nelson joined Intercept Pharmaceuticals as a Senior Manager in Product Development API Chemistry. Nelson recently assumed the position of Associate Director, overseeing API Product Development.

Nelson Correia's education history begins in 2001 when they attended aprentas and obtained a degree in Chemielaborant, specializing in Organische Chemie. From 2005 to 2006, they attended Gewerblich-industrielle Berufsschule Liestal and obtained a Technische Berufsmatura. In 2006, they enrolled in the University of Applied Sciences and Arts Northwestern Switzerland FHNW, where they pursued a Bachelor of Applied Science (BASc) degree in Molecular Life Science from 2006 to 2009.

After completing their bachelor's degree, Nelson continued their education at FHNW and obtained a CAS Projektmanagement degree in 2019, focusing on Projektmanagement. In 2023, they enrolled in two different universities simultaneously. Nelson pursued a Master of Business Administration (MBA) at Edinburgh Business School, Heriot-Watt University, and a Master of Business Administration (MBA) in International Management at the University of Applied Sciences and Arts Northwestern Switzerland FHNW. Nelson completed both programs in 2025.

In addition to their academic degrees, Nelson has also obtained several certifications. In 2021, they obtained a Certificate of Advanced English from Cambridge Assessment English. In 2022, they earned a Certificate of Achievement in C1 CEFR Business English from Babbel and became a Lean Six Sigma Green Belt certified by the International Lean Six Sigma Institute (iLSSi).
