Sonia Seneviratne

Sonia Seneviratne serves as the IPCC Working Group I Vice-chair at the IPCC since July 2023. Seneviratne has been a Professor and Group Leader at the Institute for Atmospheric and Climate Science at ETH Zürich since January 2005, and holds the position of Senior Scientist there. Prior to the current role at IPCC, Seneviratne was a Visiting Scholar at Stanford University from April 2023 to July 2023 and served as a Visiting Research Associate at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center from October 2003 to December 2004. Earlier career experience includes working as a Research Assistant/Associate at ETH Zürich and as a Visiting Research Scientist at MIT. Seneviratne earned a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Atmospheric and Climate Sciences from ETH Zürich between 1999 and 2002.
