James Lawson has worked in a variety of roles in the tech industry since 2005. James began their career at Ernst & Young in 2005 as a National Tax Global Tax Operations Administrator. In 2006 they moved to the UK Financial Services Audit Centre Administrator role. From 2008 to 2009, they worked for aLive Design as a PHP Developer / Services Support and for ITWeb as a Journalist. From 2010 to 2014, they worked for ICT Worx in a variety of positions, including Professional Services Business Unit Manager, Software Technology and Training Manager, and SWG Training Team Leader. From 2014 to 2016, they worked at Ingram Micro as an IT Advisory and Business Development Manager. Finally, from 2016 to the present, they have worked at Intergreatme in roles such as Interim Chief Executive Officer, Co-Founder, Chief Information Officer, and Chief Technology Officer.

James Lawson completed their secondary education at Parktown Boys' High School from 1995 to 2000. James then attended Technikon Witwatersrand from 2001 to 2003, where they obtained a National Diploma in Information Technology. James continued their studies at the University of Johannesburg in 2004, earning a BTech in Information Technology with a focus on Software Development, Project Management, and Expert Systems. In 2015, they completed their Master of Business Administration (M.B.A.) at GIBS Business School (Gordon Institute of Business Science). In addition to their formal education, James Lawson has obtained three certifications: IBM Certified Associate - Tivoli Monitoring V6.2.2 (2012), Oracle Certified Professional Java SE Programmer (2011), and ITIL Foundation Certificate (ITIL 2) (2006).
