Jefferson Gilkeson has a diverse and extensive work experience spanning over several decades. Jefferson began their career as an Assistant Geologist at the Illinois State Geological Survey from December 1983 to August 1988. Following that, they worked at Caterpillar Inc. from 1989 to 1998, progressing from a Systems Analyst to a Senior Systems Analyst. Jefferson then joined Atos as a Senior Consultant from 1998 to 2001.
From 2005 to 2008, Gilkeson worked at the US EPA, where they served as a Project Manager for IT Audit. During this time, they led a nationwide performance audit, managed junior audit staff, and conducted security control procedure evaluations, among other responsibilities. Jefferson also served as a subject matter expert and advised on a significant financial accounting system project.
Gilkeson then moved to the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) in 2008, where they served as a Program Manager for Cybersecurity Audit until 2014. In this role, they planned and conducted risk-based IT audits for major NASA programs and projects.
Jefferson'smost recent position was as the Director of Cybersecurity and Technology at the Office of Inspector General, U.S. Department of the Interior. Jefferson joined the company in 2014 and was responsible for planning, directing, and conducting risk-based IT audits of major Department-wide programs and projects.
Throughout their career, Gilkeson has showcased expertise in cybersecurity, technology, and IT auditing. Jefferson has successfully completed numerous audits, provided recommendations for improvement, and demonstrated strong leadership skills in managing audit teams.
Jefferson Gilkeson has a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Geology from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. Jefferson then pursued further education at the Gies College of Business - University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, where they obtained their Master of Business Administration (MBA) with a focus on Information Systems. Additionally, they hold a Master of Science (MS) degree in Accountancy and Information Systems from Illinois State University.
In terms of certifications, Gilkeson is a Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA), which they obtained from the Information Systems Audit and Control Association (ISACA) in 2007. Jefferson is also a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) in the state of Illinois, having received this certification from the Illinois governing body in 2006.
