Mandy Richards, MSN, RN, APRN, ACNS-BC, NEA-BC, is the chief nursing executive (CNE) for Intermountain Health and serves as a member of the Enterprise Leadership Team. Ms. Richards is responsible for the advancement of patient care services and clinical technology innovation across the continuum of care with a focus on both strategy and operations.
Ms. Richards has built a distinguished career in executive nursing, joining Intermountain in January of 2023 from Hartford HealthCare in Hartford, Connecticut, where she served as the executive vice president and chief nursing officer (CNO). Among her many achievements in that role, Ms. Richards designed a nursing strategy that included the inaugural implementation of a system-wide nursing division, the creation of a CNO Cabinet and Leadership Team, and the development of a recruiting and retention strategy known as the “Elevating Nursing Program”.
Before her time in Connecticut, Ms. Richards spent 15 years with Allina Health in Minneapolis, Minnesota, where she served in ever-expanding leadership roles, and ultimately as CNO for the health system. In her time with Allina, she was responsible for the performance of over 8,000 registered nurses and health professionals, as well as the development of system-wide strategic initiatives that advanced clinical nursing practices, improved patient outcomes, and enhanced patient experience.
Ms. Richard’s educational achievements include completing a Master of Science in Nursing from the University of Technology in Sydney, Australia and a mini-MBA from the University of St. Thomas in Minneapolis, Minnesota. She also received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Deakin University in Melbourne, Australia. Ms. Richards is currently pursuing a Doctor of Nursing Practice from Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut. She is also a member of the American Organization of Nurse Executives, and has a Nurse Executive-Advanced Board Certification as well as an Adult Health Clinical Nurse Specialist Certification from the American Nurses Credentialing Center.
In 2022, Ms. Richards was named among Becker’s Healthcare’s 66 CNOs of hospitals and health systems to know in recognition of her work on sustainable process improvements in quality, patient experience, staff engagement, and labor optimization.
