Marina Nagai

Caucasus Director at International Alert

Marina Nagai has extensive experience in international development and peacebuilding across the Eurasia region. Since 2010, she has been managing peacebuilding projects in the South Caucasus and leading on research and analysis in Ukraine. In this role Marina facilitates dialogue between conflicting sides; designs and manages implementation of specific peacebuilding interventions; develops programming strategies and advises on Alert’s engagement in the South Caucasus and Ukraine; and builds and maintains relations with local civil society, authorities and other key stakeholders.

Before joining Alert, she was Senior Staff Attorney and Programme Head at the American Bar Association, where she designed and managed programmes on promoting legal reforms in the former Soviet Union context.

Marina studied at the University of Edinburgh, United Kingdom, Tashkent State Institute of Law, Uzbekistan and University of Stanford, United States and holds two Master’s Degrees in International Law. She also completed the International Negotiations and Mediation Executive Course at the Diplomatic Academy of Vienna, Austria; the College d’Europe Programme on Dialogue and Mediation, Belgium; and Effective Peacebuilding Advising course by the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs, Switzerland.
