Curatorial Assistant at International Center of Photography

Malaika Newsome is an experienced art and museum professional currently serving as a Gallery Assistant at the Whitney Museum of American Art since September 2022. As a Graduate Student at The Institute of Fine Arts, NYU, since May 2022, Malaika enhances academic knowledge while also volunteering at the Museum of Contemporary Art of Georgia and the High Museum of Art. Previous roles include Book Seller at both Barnes & Noble College and Emory University, Resident Assistant at Western Carolina University, and a Curatorial Volunteer for the WCU Fine Art Museum. A background in anthropology was established at Western Carolina University, complementing a range of experiences from customer service to curatorial research, particularly within LGBTQ+ history at the Atlanta History Center.
