Federico Galizia, an Italian national, has more than twenty-five years’ experience in international organizations and financial institutions, most recently as Chief Risk Officer of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB). In that capacity, he led the Office of Risk Management, which oversees market, credit, operational and socio-environmental risk in accordance with the shareholders’ triple-A mandate, and advised the IDB’s President, Executive Vice President, and Board of Directors.
Prior to joining the IDB, Federico served as Head of Risk and Portfolio Management and Chairman of the Investment and Risk Committee at the European Investment Fund in Luxembourg, supporting small business debt and equity finance during the European sovereign crisis. Before that, he was Deputy Division Chief in the Monetary and Capital Markets Department of the International Monetary Fund in Washington, D.C., and Adviser to the President of the European Investment Bank in Luxembourg. Starting his career with McKinsey, he brings extensive experience in private sector investments, across multiple industries and geographies.
As IFC Vice President, Risk and Finance, Federico's top priorities will be to (i) provide overall direction for IFC's Risk and Finance functions and ensure that thorough oversight is maintained for IFC’s activities in an increasingly complex and decentralized environment while enabling the ambitious program growth to meet IFC’s capital increase commitments; (ii) oversee IFC’s Controller, Investment & Credit Risk; Corporate Risk Management; and Special Operations functions; and (iii) further develop and manage IFC's enterprise risk management frameworks and processes.
Federico holds a Ph.D. in Economics from Yale University and has published and lectured extensively on banking and financial-sector issues.
