Nick Makar

Senior Vice President, Maritime Administration / Regulatory Affairs at International Registries

Nick Makar has a strong background in the maritime industry, with experience in regulatory affairs and technical roles. Nick started their career in 1997 as an Engineering Officer with the American Maritime Officers Union (AMO), where they were responsible for the operation and maintenance of vessel equipment. In 2004, they joined International Registries, Inc. as a Vice President, overseeing regulatory affairs and assisting with maritime initiatives for the Republic of the Marshall Islands. During their time at International Registries, Inc., they also held the role of VP, Marine Technical/Investigations, where they supervised the implementation of national maritime laws and regulations and conducted marine casualty investigations. In 2014, Nick joined the American Bureau of Shipping as a Principal Engineer, coordinating and managing the development of international maritime regulations. Nick then returned to International Registries, Inc. in 2017 as a Regulatory Affairs Advisor before being promoted to Senior Vice President, overseeing maritime administration and regulatory affairs.

Nick Makar attended the State University of New York Maritime College from 1992 to 1996, where they obtained a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Mechanical Engineering.
