John Smith

John was born and raised in a small village surrounded by the beautiful Warwickshire countryside in the United Kingdom. John holds a Master’s degree from the University of Birmingham and the National Professional Qualification for Headship (NPQH) from the National College for Teaching and Leadership, UK. Before embarking on his career in education, John began his post-university working life in Investment Banking, working for companies such as Charles Schwab, Barclays and a joint collaboration between Merrill Lynch and HSBC. John has always had a passion for education and went back to the University of Birmingham to complete his post-graduate teaching qualification before teaching geography in a secondary school in Birmingham. In 2010, John and his wife decided to venture abroad with their two young children and moved to Doha, becoming Head of Secondary at Doha British School in 2011. Following a two-year posting in Singapore, John returned to Qatar in 2017 to become Principal of Park House English School. John has a great interest in metacognition and how research-led practice impacts the learning of students in the classroom. He has a great deal of experience and success in school improvement.
