Hank Bromley has a diverse work background, starting with their current position as the Principal Engineer for Cluster Storage and Computation at the Internet Archive since March 2015. Hank began their career with the company as a Software Engineer in May 2008. At the Internet Archive, Bromley is responsible for managing the storage and manipulation of massive amounts of data.
Before joining the Internet Archive, Bromley co-founded Buffalo Naturals LLC in 2004, a small business that produced and sold all-natural soaps. As a co-owner, they handled all financial and legal aspects, such as establishing the company as an LLC, drafting the operating agreement, obtaining federal trademark, and filing tax documents. Bromley's involvement with Buffalo Naturals ended in December 2010.
From 2005 to 2008, Bromley worked as an Independent Researcher and Consultant, applying their expertise to various projects.
Prior to that, Bromley had an extensive academic career. Hank served as an Associate Professor with tenure at the University at Buffalo - SUNY from July 2000 to August 2005. Before that, they held the position of Assistant Professor from August 1994 to July 2000. During their tenure at the university, Bromley also held positions as an Adjunct Associate Professor of Communication, Adjunct Associate Professor of Women's Studies, Director of the Center for the Study of Technology in Education, Associate Director of the Center for Educational Resources and Technologies, and served on various committees.
Before joining the University at Buffalo, Bromley had roles at the University of Wisconsin-Madison as a Fellow, Program Assistant, Teaching Assistant, and Lecturer from 1986 to 1994.
Earlier in their career, Bromley worked at AT&T Bell Labs as a Senior Technical Associate from 1984 to 1986.
Bromley's first professional role was as a Research Assistant at Umeå University's Department of General Linguistics from 1983 to 1984. During their time there, Bromley wrote software in support of research on natural language processing and psycholinguistics. Hank also spent a month on loan to the Department of Linguistics at the University of Helsinki, working on software for research on morphology.
Hank Bromley earned a Ph.D. in Educational Policy Studies from the University of Wisconsin-Madison from 1986 to 1995. Prior to that, they obtained a B.S. in Mathematics & Computer Science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology between 1978 and 1983.
