Brice Rambaud

Regional Director, Sub-Saharan Africa at Internews

Brice Rambaud is a specialist in Africa affairs and media studies, with 15 years’ experience working on the continent successively as a print journalist, academic and media development manager. He has worked in more than a dozen countries in Sub Saharan Africa – mainly Eastern and Western Africa.

Rambaud is the Internews Regional Director for Africa, based in Kenya. He leads the development and administration of Internews’ diverse array of projects and activities in the continent.

He was previously the Regional Director for Sub-Saharan Africa for the Institute for War and Peace Reporting (IWPR) as well as a media development consultant providing business development support and designing media training and humanitarian media programs.

From 2009 to 2014, Rambaud was the Program Director and Chief of Party for Internews’ Democracy & Governance projects in Kenya. The various conflict sensitive journalism and election coverage projects he led after the 2007/08 post-election violence in the country directly contributed to the drastic reduction in hate speech in the Kenyan media and more constructive reporting on political and electoral issues.

From 2004 to 2008, Rambaud was on the academic staff of the University of Bordeaux, France training students in journalism, information sciences and intercultural communications. In that capacity, he led various impact studies and project evaluations in Côte d’Ivoire, Chad and Central African Republic, was part of the 2007 electoral observation mission in Kenya, and wrote a number of academic articles on the African media.

Rambaud has a Ph.D. in Information and Communication Sciences. He is French citizen, bilingual in English and French.
