What the Role Offers - Associate Scientist

Associate Scientist will plan, organize, and execute experiments, according to high scientific standards, under minimal supervision following GLP and/or GMP guidelines.

What You Need to Succeed

  • Assist in purification processes of polysaccharides, proteins, and viral-like particles (VLPs), further scale up and transfer into cGMP manufacturing environment and carry out purification operations in cGMP environment.

  • Design and synthesis of bioconjugates involving polysaccharides/proteins or chemical modification of biomolecules with small molecules, functional linkers etc. involving specific chemistries.

  • Perform harvest clarification, normal and tangential flow filtration

  • Perform ion-exchange, size exclusion, hydrophobic, and affinity chromatography using AKTA systems and Unicorn software or similar chromatography techniques.

  • Perform equipment set-up, sterilization, daily operation, sampling, and in-process analytical testing.

  • Prepare necessary sterile chemicals solutions and other reagents required for processing.

  • Execute / Participate in qualification, validation of process, equipment, utilities program following approved protocols.

  • Work independently or in a team to perform, troubleshoot, evaluate, and propose experiments.

  • Maintain accurate and detailed laboratory notebook and documentation according to regulatory guidelines.

  • Periodically present results and summarize progress to team members.

  • Effectively prioritize tasks to meet goals and drive project to completion according to timelines.

  • Act as a team player and strive in a fast-paced, multitasking, creative and goal-orientated environment.

  • Maintain confidentiality of all company records and information.

  • Preparation of Batch Records, SOP, record sheets, protocols, reports, specifications, and other controlled documents.

  • Maintenance and execution of proper laboratory notebooks, documentation of experiments, data analysis, compilation, and presentation.

  • Intellectually contribute to main goals by staying current with scientific literature and state-of-the-art methodologies.

  • Comply with all laboratory safety requirements and procedures.

  • Follow all safety regulations, Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) policies and rules. Must comply with corporate HSE policies, including proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), which is mandatory in designated areas. Approved PPE includes lab coats, face shields and approved gloves. Safety goggles are required for all tasks. Job includes handling bio-hazardous waste in a safe manner.

  • Always maintain professional image and confidentiality of all company records and information.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree and 10+ years of experience working in either upstream or downstream fermentation and purification processes.
  • Master’s degree and 7+ years of experience working in either upstream or downstream fermentation and purification processes.
  • PhD with experience working in an appropriate field for a minimum of 3+ years.

Physical Demands:

  • Must be present on site for all related responsibilities and be able to routinely perform activities as defined above.

  • Must be able to stand for extended periods of time.

  • Must be able to dress in sterile gowning in the form of scrubs and clean room coveralls.

  • Ability to handle and work with potentially hazardous chemicals per standard operating procedure.

  • Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds.

Mental Demands:

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • Highly organized with an attention to detail.

  • Must maintain a high level of alertness and acuity for analytical review and processing of documentation, daily.

  • Able to work independently with changing priorities.

Working Conditions:

  • Onsite position in Woodinville, WA. No remote or hybrid work is available for this position.

  • Availability to work in our Woodinville or Redmond facilities.

  • Extended periods of time on the computer.

  • Extended periods of time on your feet.

  • Working in warm environment wearing sterile gowning.

  • Working with chemicals per standard operating procedure.

Estimated Base Salary: $73,133 - $85,000 / yearly DOE
