Michael Day is an accomplished finance professional with extensive experience in leadership roles within local government. Currently serving as the Chief Executive Officer at Invercargill City Council since November 2020, Michael has also held the position of Acting Chief Executive Officer and Group Manager Finance and Assurance. Prior to this, Michael was with Christchurch City Council from January 2007 to November 2020, where key roles included Finance Systems Transformation Lead, Head of Business Partnership, and Finance Manager. Michael holds a Bachelor of Commerce in Accounting from the University of Otago, earned between 1993 and 1997.

Invercargill City Council
The Council's vision is "To enhance our City and preserve its character while embracing innovation and change." The Invercargill City Council is chosen by the Invercargill public in elections held every three years. The Council consists of the Mayor and 12 Councillors and its role is to provide and maintain services and amenities for the public of Invercargill. There are two main parts to Invercargill City Council: the Council (elected representatives) and the Corporate (staff). The Council is chosen by electors (the Invercargill public) to govern the city's affairs, such as making decisions on spending, priorities and policies.
