Matthew Smith has extensive work experience in the banking industry. matthew started their career at the Royal Bank of Scotland in 1998, where they held various roles, including Economist, Equity Finance, Real Estate Finance, and Head of Product and SME External Affairs. In these positions, they led teams, developed product strategies, and ensured regulatory compliance. From 2009 to 2014, Matthew served as Chief of Staff and Head of Strategy, reporting directly to the CEO and providing strategic guidance to the board. In 2014, they became the Head of Strategic Projects in Commercial and Private Banking, where they focused on designing and delivering projects to enhance the bank's offerings to business customers. In this role, they created a large accelerator network supporting entrepreneurs. In 2016, Matthew joined Investec as Head of Strategy for the Asset Finance Group and later became Head of Strategy for Corporate Banking in 2019.

Matthew Smith has a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from The University of Edinburgh, which they completed from 2004 to 2006. Prior to that, they pursued a Masters in land economy at the University of Aberdeen from 1994 to 1995. matthew'sundergraduate degree in economics was obtained from the University of Glasgow, where they studied from 1989 to 1994.
