Investigative Reporters and Editors
Jodi Upton currently serves as the Knight Chair for Data and Explanatory Journalism at Syracuse University and as a consultant for the Knight Commission on Intercollegiate Athletics. With extensive experience in journalism, Upton is also an Executive Board Member and trainer for Investigative Reporters and Editors, where training initiatives reached hundreds of journalists across the country. Prior to these roles, Upton was the Senior Database Editor at USA TODAY, supervising a team for data-driven journalism projects. Upton’s background includes a reporting role at The Detroit News, where significant findings on grade inflation in Michigan schools were made, as well as freelance reporting on diverse topics post-911 and indigenous communities in Paraguay. Academic credentials include being a JSK Fellow at Stanford University and a Bachelor's degree from Michigan State University.
