Joshua Smith is a PhD student at the IOCB Prague, specializing in the isolation of small molecules from complex samples, with a focus on naturally occurring vanilloids from Euphorbia and Capsicum that activate the TRPV1 receptor. Prior experience includes a laboratory technician role in the HBV cure project, where work involved protein production, purification, and routine testing using HPLC-MS. Joshua also served as an English teacher at Zakladní škola Hostivice and an analyst at Patheon, conducting compendial testing and utilizing IR and wet chemistry techniques. Joshua holds a PhD in Biological and Biomedical Sciences from Charles University, a Master's degree in Chemistry, and dual Bachelor's degrees in Biology and Chemistry from East Carolina University.
