Scott McDermid, B. Sc., PMP has over 25 years of experience in the fuel cell industry. Scott is currently the Director of Fuel Cell NPI at Ionomr Innovations Inc. since 2021. Prior to this, they were a Senior Research Scientist at Overdrive Fuel Cell Engineering from 2017 to 2021. From 2008 to 2017, they were a Team Lead - Ionomer Materials Research Prototyping at AFCC Automotive Fuel Cell Cooperation Corp. (AFCC). During this time, they led a team of 5-7 individuals and managed multiple research projects focused on catalyst layer material characterization and evaluation, and the prototyping of novel concepts. Scott also researched stable and more efficient catalysts for oxygen reduction and investigated additives and modifications of commercial catalyst and ionomer materials. From 2000 to 2008, they were a Research Scientist and Test Engineer at Ballard Power Systems, where they processed and characterized membrane and catalyst layers, and synthesized and purified ionomer. From 1996 to 2000, they were a Chemist and Chemical Technician at Hexion Inc., where they synthesized and characterized phenol-formaldehyde resins for oriented strand board products, tested plywood to COFI standards, and measured formaldehyde emissions for particle board products and the manufacturing environment.

Scott McDermid holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry from the University of Victoria. Scott also holds a Project Management Professional (PMP) certification from the Project Management Institute (PMI).
