Willie Aboumrad

Senior Quantum Applications Scientist at IonQ

Willie Aboumrad has a diverse work experience in the field of mathematics and quantum computing. Starting in 2015, Willie worked as a Mathematics Grader at Stanford University. From 2016 to 2021, they served as a Teaching Assistant for various departments, including Mathematics, Management Science & Engineering, Electrical Engineering, and Computational and Mathematical Engineering. In this role, they led review sessions, developed course materials, hosted office hours, and coordinated with other TAs. From 2018 to 2021, Willie also worked as a Lead Instructor, teaching courses such as Integral Calculus, Scientific Computing, Optimization for Engineers, and MATLAB. willie managed a team of teaching assistants for these courses. Willie further contributed to Stanford University by developing and teaching calculus, linear algebra, and MATLAB-based data analysis courses for the Summer Engineering Academy from 2018 to 2021.

In 2020, Willie became an Open Source Developer at SageMath, where they wrote an update for the SageMath computational system, focusing on calculating properties of anyon systems used in topological quantum computers. willie also contributed code for modeling Fusion Rings under the guidance of Prof. Dan Bump.

In 2022, Willie joined Stanford University again, this time as an Instructor. willie co-taught a numerical linear algebra course and developed a new course on the mathematics of Topological Quantum Computing (TQC). This course covered topics such as Anyons, Braids, and Categories and aimed to introduce students to the fundamentals of TQC.

In 2023, Willie started working at IonQ as a Senior Quantum Applications Scientist, utilizing their expertise in quantum computing and applications.

Throughout their career, Willie has demonstrated a strong dedication to teaching and developing educational materials, particularly in mathematics and quantum computing.
