Costa Nikou has a diverse and extensive work experience in the field of medical robotics and computer-assisted surgery. Starting from 1993, Costa worked as a student and research programmer at Carnegie Mellon, focusing on computer-assisted orthopedic surgery. This experience eventually led Costa to become the Director of Software Development at CASurgica, Inc. in 2002. Afterward, Costa established their own consulting services, which operated from 2002 to 2008. In 2004, Costa joined Blue Belt Technologies, Inc. as the Director of Software Development, where they oversaw the development of various medical device projects. From 2016 to 2019, Costa served as the Director of Software at Smith & Nephew Orthopaedics, responsible for software design and development for the Navio Surgical System. Costa then became the Senior Director of Systems Engineering and Robotics at Smith and Nephew from 2019 to 2021. Following this role, Costa worked as a Senior Principal Robotics Engineer at Smith & Nephew until 2023. Currently, Costa is the Chief Technology Officer at iotaMotion.
Costa Nikou completed a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science from Carnegie Mellon University from 1993 to 1996. Costa then pursued a Master of Science degree in Robotics from the same university from 1996 to 1999. In 2004-2005, they attended the WPSD ASL Class, where they obtained a Level 4 in American Sign Language (ASL). Prior to their university education, Costa Nikou attended East Allegheny High School, although no specific degree or field of study is provided.
