Samuel Sturtz is an experienced transportation planner currently working at the Iowa Department of Transportation since June 2015, focusing on statewide screening and crash data analysis, as well as contributing to the State Long Range Transportation Plan and the Strategic Highway Safety Plan. Prior to this role, Samuel served as a teaching assistant at The University of Iowa from August 2013 to May 2015, supporting professors with various academic duties, and as a planning intern at the Southeast Iowa Regional Planning Commission in Summer 2014, where Samuel drafted language for municipal zoning and subdivision regulations. A former volunteer with the Community Corrections Improvement Association, Samuel developed a youth initiative called Badges for Baseball, engaging with diverse youth from July 2012 to July 2013. Samuel holds a Master of Science in City/Urban, Community, and Regional Planning from the University of Iowa and a Bachelor of Arts in American History from Wartburg College.
