Information and Privacy Commissioner of Ontario
Andrea Corlett has extensive experience in the field of communications. Andrea started their career in 2003 at the Government of Ontario, Ministry of Children and Youth Services, where they held various roles including Strategic Project Coordinator and Team Leader of Strategic Communications. Andrea then moved on to the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing in 2010, where they worked as a Manager of Corporate and Electronic Communications. In 2013, Andrea joined the Ministry of Northern Development and Mines as an Assistant Director of Communications. Andrea later transitioned to the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities in 2014, serving as an Assistant Director of Communications and Marketing Services. Most recently, Andrea has been working at the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Ontario as the Director of Communications since 2016.
Andrea Corlett attended Senator O'Connor from 1981 to 1985. Andrea then pursued a Bachelor of Arts degree at the University of Guelph from 1986 to 1990. Later on, they enrolled in the Public Sector Leadership Institute at the University of Toronto's Rotman School of Management Executive Programs in 2015 and graduated in 2016.
Information and Privacy Commissioner of Ontario
The role of the Information and Privacy Commissioner is set out in three statutes: the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act, the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act and the Personal Health Information Protection Act. The IPC acts independently of government to uphold and promote open government and the protection of personal privacy. Under the three Acts, the Information and Privacy Commissioner: - Resolves access to information appeals and complaints when government or health care practitioners and organizations refuse to grant requests for access or correction; - Investigates complaints with respect to personal information held by government or health care practitioners and organizations; - Conducts research into access and privacy issues; - Comments on proposed government legislation and programs; and - Educates the public about Ontario’s access and privacy laws.
