Nichole Vonk has a diverse work experience in various roles related to information management and archiving. Nichole is currently working as a Team Lead for Business Information Solutions at the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Ontario since August 2023. Previously, they worked at The United Church of Canada as the General Council Archives Manager from July 2008 to August 2023. Additionally, they served as a SharePoint Project Lead and Information Manager at the same organization from July 2019 to February 2021. Before that, they worked as an Archivist/Information Specialist at St. Michael's Hospital from July 2006 to July 2008 and as an Archivist at the Industrial Accident Prevention Association from February 2006 to July 2006.

Nichole Vonk obtained a BA in English Language and Literature from York University from 2000 to 2003. Nichole then pursued an MISt degree with a focus on the Archives Stream at the University of Toronto from 2003 to 2005. In terms of additional certifications, Nichole earned a Library Leadership and Management Certificate from Library Juice Academy in 2021. Nichole also obtained various certifications related to information management, SharePoint, and application development, including the Certified Expert in SharePoint 2013 - Information Architecture and Governance and the Power Apps JumpStart Challenger certificate, among others.

Information and Privacy Commissioner of Ontario

The role of the Information and Privacy Commissioner is set out in three statutes: the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act, the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act and the Personal Health Information Protection Act. The IPC acts independently of government to uphold and promote open government and the protection of personal privacy. Under the three Acts, the Information and Privacy Commissioner: - Resolves access to information appeals and complaints when government or health care practitioners and organizations refuse to grant requests for access or correction; - Investigates complaints with respect to personal information held by government or health care practitioners and organizations; - Conducts research into access and privacy issues; - Comments on proposed government legislation and programs; and - Educates the public about Ontario’s access and privacy laws.
