Shoa Asfaha

Shoa Asfaha is a social development, forest governance, gender and food security specialist with an agricultural economics background. She has more than 25 years of experience in advising NGOs, research institutions, governments and the donor community.

Shoa has extensive experience in monitoring, evaluation and learning (MEL), forest governance, socio-economic studies and gender analysis in a wide range of contexts, including fragile and post-conflict states and the Congo Basin region. She has broad experience in working with civil society organisations, governments and international institutions. She gained substantial experience through her focus on project implementation and strategic programme development with a broad range of organisations in different international development environments. She has a thorough understanding of the challenges and complexity of development issues and the expectations of multiple stakeholders including the 'beneficiaries' and 'donors'. Through her work in Africa and globally, she has gained specialist experience in forest governance and social development in particular gender analysis. She has served as Board or Committee Member in several Non-Governmental Organisations, such as IDE International and IDE UK, CARE International (UK) and African Foundation for Development She is also the Programme Advisor in Comic Relief for Women and Girls.

Before joining IPE Triple Line, she worked on project and programme management with CARE International U.K. and U.S.A. for over 7 years.

Shoa Asfaha holds Ph.D. Honours in Economic Geography and M.Sc. in Agricultural Economics from the École des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales, Paris. She did her graduation in B.Sc.(Political Economy) from Université Paris 8 (France).
