Mariana Machado has held a variety of roles in the past decade. From 2009 to 2011, they were an intern at EMBRAPA Arroz e Feijao, where they were involved in upland rice cultivation, development of Rice Blast Disease resistance bioessays, and laboratory routine such as fungus and bacteria isolation and cultivation, maintenance of fungus and bacteria collection, and in vitro antagonism tests. From 2011 to 2014, they were a Graduate Student at Embrapa Hortaliças, where they were involved in tomato cultivation under greenhouse condition, testing efficiency of new sources of resistance in tomato to Begomovirus, and development of molecular markers to detect Begomovirus resistance genes. Since 2019, they have been working at iRancho, where they have held the roles of Chief Marketing and Sales Officer and CMO.
Mariana Machado has a varied educational background. Mariana obtained a Bachelor in Agronomy from the Universidade Federal de Goiás between 2005 and 2010. Mariana then completed a Master of Science in Plant Pathology at Universidade de Brasília between 2011 and 2013. In 2014, they completed a Master of Science in Plant Breeding at Texas A&M University, which they completed in 2016. In 2018, they completed a Digital Marketing course from Udacity. Most recently, they attended Northwestern University - Kellogg School of Management in 2019 for a Marketing course.
