Ben Backwell

Member Of The Steering Committee, Coalition For Action at International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA)

Ben Backwell is a seasoned leader in the renewable energy sector, currently serving as CEO of the Global Wind Energy Council since August 2018. In addition, Backwell holds positions as Chair of the Global Renewables Alliance and Board Member of the Ocean Energy Pathway, both starting in 2023. Backwell actively contributes to several organizations, including the International Renewable Energy Agency's Coalition for Action as a Steering Committee member and as a member of the Advisory Board for RE100 at The Climate Group. Further involvement includes Board membership at the Sussex Energy Group and advisory roles at Modvion. Previous experience includes serving as Non-Executive Director at SuperNode Ltd and Managing Director at FTI Consulting. Backwell's academic background includes an MSc in Political Science from the School of Advanced Study, University of London.
